Microcontrollers in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

چکیده
Closed-system aquaculture presents a new and expanding commercial opportunity; however, presently there are few profitable commercial operations. Intensive aquaculture systems require a sufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients in temperaturecontrolled water with a means of removing wastes from the system. In properly controlled recirculating aquaculture systems, stocking rates of up to one-half pound of fish per gallon of water can be obtained. However, since failure of any component can cause catastrophic losses within a short period of time, the system must be reliable and constantly monitored. Thus, precise measurements and controls are necessary for the success of an intensive recirculating aquaculture system.

Research Article: The effect of media biofilter and aquatic plant (Ceratophyllum demersum) on water quality of recirculating aquaculture systems, growth and survival rates of ornamental fishes
This study was conducted in order to compare the hornwort aquatic plant (Ceratophyllum demersum) with an artificial filter for purification in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). At first, the fluctuation of nitrogen components of the water reuse system equipped with artificial filtration was evaluated. Experiments were performed during three months. The hornwort aquatic plant was collect...

Aquaculture, the farming of fish and aquatic crops such as kelp and algae, is classically done in natural bodies of water. In land-based recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), however, tanks or raceways contain the farmed species and the water is circulated through a treatment system. Benefits compared to traditional farming in open cages include reduced emissions of nutrients, less risk of i...
متن کاملRecirculating Aquaculture Tank Production Systems: Integrating Fish and Plant Culture
Recirculating aquaculture systems are designed to raise large quantities of fish in relatively small volumes of water by treating the water to remove toxic waste products and then reusing it. In the process of reusing the water many times, non-toxic nutrients and organic matter accumulate. These metabolic byproducts need not be wasted if they are channeled into secondary crops that have economi...
